The new devices have changed the definition of mid-range devices by bringing high-end features at a very aggressive price point. Vivo is doing the same in its new mid-range devices. Recently Vivo launched Vivo Y95 at the price tag of Rs. 15,990. The smartphone is considered as the competition to other mid-range smartphones like Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Honor 9 Lite. Previously, Vivo has brought out some new high debut features like a display fingerprint sensor and retractable camera in its device. With Halo FullView Display, AI camera, Google Lens, and Snapdragon 439 processor. Choose to order online for best rates with Amazon Offers on electronic stores.
So, is this phone for daily usage and worth buying? Let’s check it out in Vivo Y95 review below:
Design and Display
Vivo Y95 doesn’t bring anything fresh on the table in terms of design. Just like many other Vivo smartphones, Vivo Y95 also offers the same. The phone gets a plastic back which neither feels too premium nor too cheap. A curved back and edgy corners to give better grip are given to the device. The device gets the dual color back panel and it looks that it is the new trend in smartphones nowadays.
On the back, there is a dual cam setup and a fingerprint sensor which is at the perfect position. The display has a tiny notch called as Halo Notch. Inside the notch sits a front camera for selfies. As per the bezels are concerned, they are very thin at sides but the bottom one is thick somewhat.
Coming to the display, Vivo Y95 packs 15.798 centimeters (6.22 inch) HD+ capacitive touchscreen with 1520 x 720 pixels resolution. There is a small camera in the Halo Notch which helps in giving the better screen to body ratio of 88.6. The display is average only because of its HD+ resolution with good viewing angles too. FHD+ display is what which could have saved the game for Vivo’s Y95 display. Overall, it is a decent display in this price range as many other brands provide better display quality at this same price.
Under the hood, Vivo Y95 packs a 1.95GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 octa-core processor paired with 4GB RAM having onboard storage 64GB expandable up to 256GB. The smartphone features a whole new AI Gaming Mode with crazy functions like Floating Call Alerts, Background Calls, and the Game Keyboard while adding features such as the new Game Assistant.
The 12nm chip doesn’t give you powerful sturdy performance, It is the one which can just do the work for you with no lags or app delays. Coming to the gaming side, there might be a new AI Gaming mode but it couldn’t help the device in playing heavy games like PUBG. Though usual games work pretty file, in case of heavy ones you might have to bring your graphics down to run it without any lag.
Camera and Battery Life
Companies like Oppo and Vivo are known for their cameras. In the mid-range devices, it can be said that these companies are the ruling parties. Vivo Y95 brings a dual rear camera setup which includes a 13MP primary sensor with aperture f/2.2 and secondary sensor of 2MP with aperture f/2.4. The rear camera consists of modes like professional, face beauty, time-lapse, slow, panorama, PDAF, live photos, portrait mode, google lens, AI scene recognition, HDR, portrait mode, and AR stickers.
Coming to the front camera, the device takes a hold onto 20MP selfie cam with AI features to detect age, skin texture and many more things.
The rear camera is a great performer with the detailing and clarity it leaves in every click. But, it does average in the low lighting situations like any other device. Though AI feature comes handy to enhance the image. Same goes with the front camera, every click is well detailed even better than rear camera. Moreover, with beauty mode, the ball goes out of the park.
Vivo Y95 packs a massive 4030mAh battery. It will last for more than a day with some energy left at end of a typical day. The massive battery is the biggest plus of this device undoubtedly.
Vivo Y95 runs Android v8.1 Oreo out of the box based on Funtouch 4.5. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and USB OTG. In the box, you will get Earphone, Micro USB to USB Cable, USB Power Adapter, SIM Ejector Pin, Protective Case, Protective Film (1 applied), and User Manual. Vivo Y95 is available in two color variants: Nebula Purple and Starry Black.
Vivo Y95 is a very tough and stiff pick for any user. Considering the price range it has been put in to, this Vivo device is a major led down. Though it is a great selfie camera with a humongous battery, still it is a basic device. There are many other devices which offer a lot more than this Vivo device at this price point. So, if you are looking for this device, you might be getting a simple machine with no fancy features considering its price of Rs. 15,990.
